Open 7 days a week and on most holidays, the Northern Frontier Visitors' Centre is intended to be your first stop upon arrival in Yellowknife. Located just off highway #4, across from the Explorer Hotel and halfway between the Centre Square Mall/YK Inn and and the Museum, we are centrally placed within easy walking distance of many accommodations and attractions. Our friendly, welcoming staff is always on hand to answer questions about the city and area, and assist you in deciding where to go and what to see while in Yellowknife.
But our facility is more than just a Visitors' Centre! We also feature extensive displays on various aspects of the area including a large display on the diamond mines, several historical displays and a wildlife diorama. Our building is pleased to host the Astronomy North AuroraMAX information terminal and simulator, as well as being a location for one of the Northern Lighthouse aurora forecasting beacons. We also feature an extensive gift shop with a large selection of both hand-made and factory-made souvenirs, including many unique pieces of northern art and handicraft available nowhere else!
