A short documentary on Yellowknife aurora chaser Keating Smith will be airing on the CBC Arts television show The Exhibitionists this Friday, April 28th, at 12:30 am and again on Sunday April 30th at 3:30 pm (all times Eastern) for the shows third season premier.

 

Smith is one of just a few aurora chasers across the polar nations documenting the aurora borealis or northern lights through what is known as ‘real-time’ footage. With rapid changes in camera technology the aurora borealis is now being captured from a new medium than your standard digital still image. Smith made the transition from aurora photographer to filmer last winter and hasn’t looked back.

 

Coined unofficially as “the aurora capital of the world” the Northwest Territories sits directly under the northern hemisphere’s aurora oval giving way to some of the most spectacular northern lights viewing in the world. Watch The Exhibitionists on Friday night at 10:30pm Mountain Time and Sunday at 1:30pm Mountain Time on CBC Television.
